I wanted to separate this from my short little update.

I haven't been active on DA for a variety of reasons. After moving back to Texas for a job, I became incredibly busy while working at a 24/7 pharmacy. I moved out there alone and back in with my parents. The plan was that my fiance Josh would follow shortly after, but it never happened. We couldn't qualify to rent a home, or even an apartment. Lack of credit will do that to you-- not even bad credit, just lack of. It's so stupid.

And then not to mention my car finally hitting the bucket. I loved my Buick named Frank, and he had been in the family for 22 years (and little mileage, considering), but his engine fell out and it was to pricey a repair. I had to beg my Dad to cosign on a car for me (because I'm cosigned on our Honda as well, and they don't like you cosigned on two apparently? Even if you're already 3/4 paid off on the other? What?), which meant they couldn't cosign on a place to live. Tough choice, but not as tough as watching them haul away your beloved friend for a measly $148. Rest in Peace, dear Frank. May you be parted out and live on in other cars (because seriously, we placed everything).

As always, he managed to conjure up some good work right before he planned on moving, so he ended up staying behind. We were separated for over half a year, and let me tell you, that's really difficult after you've been living with each other for 6 years.

We've been trying to move back to Texas for a long time, because it's just so much better than Louisiana, in a lot of ways. It's nicer, better weather and it's cheaper. I'm from there personally, so my family and oldest friends are there (not that I don't have close friends in LA, I do!), but there are other reasons I wanted to move back.

My mother is dying of liver failure. After decades of severe alcohol abuse, she's finally hit the point where she will die. I put it bluntly, because it is a blunt situation, and it can't be ignored. Those who know me closely, know that my relationship has always been difficult with her, and it's always been because she was constantly drunk off of her skunk. But what can you do? You can tell someone they have a problem, but you can't make them fix it. I've had to endure knives being wielded in my face, and cast iron pots being thrown at me, over nothing. She has 20% liver function. She does not qualify for a transplant and she couldn't survive that if she did. She likely has about 2-3 years, IF she takes care of herself. Which she doesn't.

And this has really affected me, despite our rocky relationship. I mean, she's my MOTHER of all people. In the end, that still means something.

In addition to that, my sister has been diagnosed with a seizure disorder. I'm super close to my sister and this really hit hard. She's had a history of memory lapses and retention problems, as well as massive migraines for years. She really struggled in College with it, and despite all odds, was able to graduate in the top of her class. But she's been likely have 'mini-seizures' for years. We're lucky that we caught it early, because it hasn't progressed to the point of Grand Mal seizures.

But her meds aren't working. They've upped them, done tons of tests, and nothing has helped. She's endured MRI after MRI, CT scans, terrible meds that make her sick, going on medical leave (and losing her job), and she cannot drive anywhere until she is cleared. With me moving back, I worry for her, because I felt that no one else took her condition seriously. Our father even went as far to say that he didn't want her to have a procedure done at the house, because it's a little messy, and he's embarrassed.

Despite the fact that her meds aren't working and they can't up them without a 72-hour EEG test. You know, the meds that will save her live, that she CANNOT STOP TAKING UNTIL SHE DIES. But no, by all means, say SHE CAN'T HAVE IT.

My brother is also out of work do to severe nerve damage, 6 slipped discs in his back and constant pleurisy. With everyone in the house basically UNABLE to do anything, I took to making dinners, driving people around and to the hospitals, and such, on top of my job.

MY EXTREMELY STRESSFUL JOB as a pharmacy Tech at a 24/7 Walgreens, that literally ate up my life. People screamed at me all day long, I yelled at Insurance companies all day long, and I came home beat and battered and sore, only to endure it again the next day. I took the job because it paid far better, but I'll tell you, it doesn't pay enough.

So in short, I've been lonely, depressed and I can't even have an occasional beer in the house. My wedding plans are STILL on hold, after more than 4 years (because of the absorbent cost of my brother's divorce) and I feel all around like I just can't get my shit together. I managed to ALMOST get a really nice job at a printing press here in Baton Rouge, LA, but it didn't pan out in the end (we like you and want to hire you, but it'll have to wait....). And that was AFTER they basically offered me the position... I'm still hoping they'll offer it to me! I'm not mad, just disappointed in myself, I suppose.

So in the end, I took this internship for Josh. I didn't want to move back to Louisiana (even though I miss my peeps). I hate the weather here, my eczema is going to get far worse, and I'll constantly worry about my family. I will miss my best friend being 5 minutes away. But this could change the future, yeah? If I learn programming?

Who knows.
Wow, I really neglect DA, don't I? To be fair though, I haven't worked on a lot of cosplay as of yet, due to me being so busy with work.

We were never able to get my fiance moved out to Texas, because he acquired some work right after I left (every damn time, I swear). He eventually offered my a position to intern on the game he is making, so after being in Texas for almost half a year.... I just moved back to Louisiana. Now, we're hoping that this isn't permanent, and that within the next year or so, we'll be back in Texas! :3

In the meantime, I'm learning how to code and I will be working on his game Nefarious. How exciting!

I AM working on some cosplay, and I will be at Classic Game Fest in Austin, in a few weeks. I'm helping my sister run her table. :3
Hey guys! It's been a while since I've uploaded anything here, but never fear--- I've been working on new things. :D

In the meantime, I've opened up a print store! There are a few awesome pictures-- all high-quality 8 x 10, photo quality-prints! Be sure to take a look and share around.

Thanks for everyone's support!

Been Awhile... Again

Thu Jun 26, 2014, 8:43 PM

I'm terrible at updating things, Ahhh.

I'm still in a bit of a hiatus, but I'll be back at Mechacon with full force! Working on finishing up Sesshoumaru for the contest and then a secret cosplay for a secret reason. :D

In other news, I'm now writing with Lifted Geek! It's an awesome website, so be sure to check them out, ahhhhh~

I've been super slacking on my page here, but super active on my facebook page! I post most of my stuff over there now, aside from a few hi-def pictures over here, so if you want to see progress and my current going-ons, be sure to head over to my page and give it a like!

www.facebook.com/MissMarquin

It's been a hard end of a year and beginning.

On the upside, I started repping geeklurv.com, which is an awesome dating site for people of the geeky orient. There are a free subscriptions as well as paid (AND AFFORDABLE!)-- be sure to check 'em out!

Aside from that, I actually decided to take a break from Cosplaying-- or at least making cosplay. I really need to get a better job and save up money for just a little while. This means that I WILL NOT be attending A-kon and Most likely not, San Japan. I'm sad about this, but bills are priority man, and even though I am pretty thrifty as far as Cospaly goes, I've been having some rough times lately. x_x

I'm not gone forever though!

Wow, It's Been a Long Time

Thu Nov 7, 2013, 8:08 PM

Literally forever. Sometimes life gets in the way and lately I've been stressed up to my eyeballs.

Remember that last update saying we were officially moving to San Antonio? Yea, that didn't happen. The week of the move, Josh was offered a job at Pixel Dash studios which he INSTANTLY took. So, we're still in the Baton Rouge area for the time being. I was lucky to have a boss that liked me, so she instantly offered me my job back. It's nice to be loved. ;_;

Cosplay was put on a tad bit of a hold, but now I'm back into full swing! We recently pulled out Jak and Daxter for Oni-con, and a surprise T-Elos Swimsuit cosplay for a beach shoot, just for :iconwhitelilyphotos:.  Sesshoumaru is next up on the list for Ikkicon.

We're stressed and busy, but we're okay! Sorry for the silence. xO

News and Storenvy!

Sat Aug 3, 2013, 9:22 PM

It's official, we ARE moving to SA, and at the end of the month! We're excited but also super nervous at the same time! We've been thinking about moving back to Texas for awhile, but not under the circumstances that have come about, and not so suddenly. Alas, life happens. We're super nervous because we aren't really prepared for such a sudden change and so soon.

Because of this, I still have some cosplays up for sale, which can be seen on my Facebook page. This includes my beloved Seong Mina cosplay! I am also taking comissions for Cammy gloves.

I will be selling hats and a few knickknacks at my family's table at San Japan! If you see the table with the MOUNDS and MOUNDS of fleece pillows, that's us!

I have also decided to open a store envy! I'm not expecting to sell a lot of prints or anything, but I thought, hey might as well try you know! Everything has been listed under the pre-order tab, since I'll have to print these as (if) orders come in!

Please take a look! :D

General Update!

Wed Jul 24, 2013, 1:37 AM

It's been awhile since I've updaated, aside from telling everyone that I had some cosplays up for sale.

I WILL be attending both San Japan and Mechacon, and I am a Cosplay guest at the latter. The only new cosplay I will be debuting is my Cruella DeVil cosplay. We've decided to put Jak and Daxter on hold until we figure out our personal issues.

On that note, I'm not going to say much, but I will say this: We might very well be moving to Texas soon. It's a very sudden decision we've had to make, but there will be more details later on when we actually know what's going on.

Another note: I will no longer be posting cosplay PROGRESS here, only final shots of my cosplay. It's easier to post that stuff to facebook, as I update my page there more often than I do here.

So, you want to see the progress and hear general updates, please follow my cosplay page!

Bayoucon and GOOD NEWS!

Bayoucon was interesting to say the least.  Even though I was a guest, no one knew it. It was very tiny and the cosplay contest was very unorganized-- making it really hard to judge! Still, I had a great time with friends, got to run my very first panel EVER, and saw a few really good cosplays!

I was really honored when Bayoucon asked me to be a guest, but let's face it: it was a REALLY tiny convention.

Mechacon in New Orleans-- the largest in Lousiaina and very decently sized-- just asked me to be a cosplay guest and judge! Words cannot describe how honored I am, and what an opportunity this is! I can't wait. /dies

I don't even know how to describe A-kon. It was my tenth year going in a row, and as always, I had a blast. But I'm not sure if  really enjoyed the convention itself. I did not stay at the Anatole-- I stayed at the Best Western around the corner (such a good deal. Half the price, and not EVEN a five minute walk. Oh, and free breakfast). There was space, but there wasn't space? I really think that they could have organized the lines a LOT better.

I didn't EVEN get a chance to go to the Dealer's Room/ Artist Alley. I couldn't navigate the halls in any of the cosplay I was wearing (large wig, large prop), and I wasn't going to be the dick cosplayer that just shoves their way through everyone. Had I known, I wouldn't have bought the badge for the weekend, and woulda sprung a Saturday one instead for the contest.

Speaking of, the Cosplay Contest was FANTASTICALLY run. Got to hang out with the AMAZING Atelier Heidi and Josh then entire time (even if Heidi's Holo ears made me sneeze).  You can find her page here: www.facebook.com/AtelierHeidi?…

Josh wore Kog'Maw in the Contest, and one Most Humerous! YAY! So awesome for his first contest ever~ So proud of my babbeh!

Sadly, A-kon was so huge, it was really hard trying to meet with people, and I don't know about you guys but.... I had NO cell reception.... AT ALL. AT. ALL. Yea. Sorry if you sent me a text to hang, I prolly didn't even get it.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend. But will I got back next year? I honestly don't know. I spent too much money and didn't do a lot.

And now for onward moving plans!

I AM A COSPLAY GUEST AT BAYOUCON 5 THIS YEAR IN LAKE CHARLES.

Even if it's a REALLY tiny convention, I'm super stoked that they asked me! I'lll be juding the contest along with :iconshinrajunkiecosplay: and a few others! Get to hang with my peeps! Working on a new cosplay for it too-- Yashiro Uzuki from The World Ends With You. Super stoked to be cosplaying with my buds!

After that, it's time to crunch down on SAN JAPAN cosplays. I'm super stoked about this year, it's NOT EVEN funny. Josh and I are planning on cosplaying together (for the first time in years, too), and entering the contest! :D

Wow, sorry for the long-time, no update! After anime Matsuri, I managed to get a job, and I've been really quite busy!

I've been working on a lot of things lately, and between work and that, I've been too busy to update a lot of stuff here!

Finally got some photos back from :iconkuragiman: from Mechacon last year, and I love them! I'll slowly be uploading those!

I've been working on my T-Elos remake, and I got to work with Worbla for the first time... and I'm in love! I don't think I'll EVER go back. Unless I can learn Matt Bonner's Vacuum forming ways. Unfortunately, she WILL NOT be done for A-kon (as previously planned), and will be pushed back until San Japan.

Because of this, Josh and I have been working on a ridiculous full-body puppet of Kog'Maw from League of Legends. It'ss Josh's first contest piece, and I'm glad to have helped him with it so far! It's looking really awesome.

We WILL be at A-kon! I'm really pumped about it, and I can't wait to see everyone there!

Line-up is as follows:

Friday Morning/Afternoon: Jam Kuradoberi (Guilty Gear)
Friday Late afternoon/Night: Cammy White (Street Fighter)
Saturday: Seong Mi-Na (Soul Calibur IV)

I'm not sure how long I'll be in Mina on Sat, since I might change out and help Josh while he's wearing Kog'Maw in the contest. I just KNOW he'll need a handler.

There are many things in store for after A-kon, but I'll get to that later on. For now, it's stay the course, and I'll see a lot of you this weekend!

Later Days!

A (Late) Anime Matsuri Write-Up

Tue Apr 9, 2013, 4:08 PM
  • Listening to: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
  • Reading: Eye of the World
  • Watching: Josh Play Bioshock Infinite
  • Playing: Pokemans
  • Eating: PANCAKES
  • Drinking: YOOHOO

I know I'm a little bit late in writing this, but I've been quite sick this last week or two.

So. Anime Matsuri. What can I say?

I've heard the most amazing things about this convention for years, from the location, to the cosplayers, to seeing the AMAZING photos turned out from it. I've never been able to go (due to having to work Easter Weekend), so I was SO excited to be able to go finally.

And quite honestly?

I might not EVER go back.

I have never had as worse a time at a convention as I had, at AM this year. Now, let me clarify something: I DID have fun. Hanging out with friends, cosplaying, and doing a few photoshoots. But that was about it. Nothing about the convention itself really appealed to me.

The venue was the WORST I had ever seen for an anime convention, in my entire life. And this is including Oni-con '09. For those who remember that. The Dealer's Room was in the basement, with NO signs or anything pointing to it's location. I found it on SUNDAY. They had no room for the arcade/gaming room... so they put the games IN THE LOBBY. So, it was loud, annoying and people were lining up for DDR where people should've had room for standing. The games were so loud, and since the lobby is open air all the floors up, you could hear the noise in your hotel room. Not. Fun.

The convention itself was very disorganized. Events start really late (the cosplay contest started almost two hours late). There was no room for anything. The Artist Alley room had VERY dim lights, and you couldn't see anything. The tables that were in the hallways were in a tight corridor only about 5 feet wide. And then they started feeding PANEL LINES through it. You couldn't move through them at all.

The Cosplay Contest itself was the worst I've ever been apart in. The prep room was a triangular room 25 x25x25. You try shoving 70 people in there, and see how you feel. WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING. Almost 20 entries dropped without notice. They didn't let the skits practice on stage with their audio and light cues. We sat in that room for about four hours. Once I got on stage, they didn't play the music I sent in, or show the backdrop that I did. A LOT of people suffered from audio issues like this. People who won skit awards weren't even skits-- I'm STILL trying to figure that one out.

All in all, the convention was a mess. I had fun hanging out with friends and cosplaying, but the venue was bad, there was no room, and all the places to eat closed early (THE McDONALDS CLOSED AT 5PM, WTH). One of the ONLY redeeming things for me, was that I got to see the WCS finals, which was amazing. And went on without a hitch. And I got interview by the SYFY channel on my Medusa cosplay.

I think that the AM's issue was that they were SO focused on WSC and having the SYFY channel there, that they dropped the ball on a lot. It's really sad, I had been looking forward to AM my whole life, but I think I'll just stick to Alll-con next year.

Here I Come! by Miss-Marquin Behind by Miss-Marquin Smile by Miss-Marquin

I'm really very proud of this cosplay, and it's taken a lot of thinking to want to even THINK of parting with it. A LOT of work and details went into this, which is why it's more expensive.

The whole costume is Cotton twill and is fully lined. The bottom skirt does NOT have raw seams on the inside, but the top DOES. All of the trim is bias tape. All of the details were hand painted on. It has a zipper up the back, but is generally loose enough to just slip on. The side pieces on the skirt are EVA foam covered in gold spandex. The skirt velcros on one side, and opens completely. The little dangly on the side is craft foam. The armbands are green broadcloth and trimmed with terry cloth. They velcro shut.

The wig is a really nice wig. The ponytail cannot come out—it's been stubbed, the tube of wonderflex added, and then the tuft of hair glued into the end. Still, it's in good shape, rather comfy and has combs in the front and back to help keep it on. I ALWAYS wore it with a wig-cap.

I wore this several times, and it's a little wrinkled. I WILL iron it and freshen it up a bit before shipped out, I promise! As stated earlier, the bottom doesn't have raw seams, but the top does (I have no serger). If you would like pictures of the inside, just let me know.
